Results of the Experiment

The ICFF was a very lively show this year.  With the Italians moved out to their own show, there were many spots open for new exhibitors, inlcuding the Canadian booth sponsored by the government and coordinated by the Design Exchange.  We want to thank everyone who contributed their business card to the CDN collage.  Surely we only collected half (or even less) of all the Canadians that were there, but nonetheless...it was clear that we were more in number than most people thought.  Klinik will continue to build the Quietly dialog and we welcome all those Canadians who were in NY for the show to contribute.  Instructions for how to contribute are posted here under the category "About Quietly and Contributing".  If you have not yet listened to the audio montage that we broadcast at the show....please check it out in the posting below. A number of people asked if we could make an audio montage for their booth, product launch, and/or website...yeah, we probably can. Fire us an email at quietly@klinik.ca and we will figure something out for you.  Cheers to everyone who was with us. It was a great show...

Quietly at ICFF

This weekend we are debuting Quietly at the ICFF show in New York. Our amazing friend Terence Bernardo mixed the postings from Quietly into a collage which we will be playing at the booth. Thank you Terence!! You can listen to more from Terence at www.whitemudfreeway.com

Object Collection

There is a lot of effort, thought, and planning, that goes into these discussions.  We all want to "push out" and promote Canadian design. There is one individual who really has carved a unique place....  Over the last ten years or more, he has been a major player in getting the design world to notice Canada over the years. As a founding partner at Pure Design, Geoff Lilge opened the other side of the design dialog by reaching out to international designers and bringing their work into Canada.  I think this is just as important as trying to export our Canadian message...  Design as dialog as opposed to monologue..so much preferable.  ANYWAY, this whole preable is to announce that Geoff is up to new tricks.  With www.objectcollection.com Geoff has again mixed the Canadian with the best outside our borders to build a new ceramics collection... We reccomend you check it out!

Design Matters

Todd Falkowsky discusses the "content generation" and how the skepticisim and pessimism of this generation will influence design.  Is Canada's history as a "peacemaker" going to help Canadian designers be the ones that can build a reconcilition between producers and consumers....  Todd reads lots of books...you can tell!

BARK is calling for submissions

As the next stage of its global campaign, BARK is designing a 420 square foot, fully outfitted cabin for the 21st century — mobile, self-contained, low-impact, smart, tough, cool, and all Canadian. Based on the ISO container format, it can be transportable to any place in the world.  When it gets to its destination the contents won’t be unloaded, instead the entire shipment will unfold, deploy, and spread its wings to become the All Terrain Cabin (ATC).

Inside and out, will be the best of Canada, in design, materials, products, and technology.

The ATC will be a mobile Canadian showcase for design and technology embedded in a real, functioning habitable environment. It will be a working example of Canadian ingenuity and support the perspective of live/work/play. Crucially, it can be located anywhere, unplugged and off the grid, leaving minimal impact upon its removal and relocation. The ATC will be equally at home in the wilderness, in the city, at an international contemporary design forum, or a consumer home and interiors show.

The ATC will be completed this summer and shipped to Tokyo in late September 2005.  If you would like your products to be considered for inclusion in this project, BARK must have information expressing your interest and proposed product contribution by June 15, and your selected products must be delivered to BARK in Vancouver by July 15.
